A real family museum

SEE, DO and EXPERIENCE: besides exhibitions, there are lots of other activities for children to enjoy at Juttersmuseum Flora:

A journey of discovery through the museum? Children can take part in a (free) treasure hunt! With lots of fun games along the way, such as the fishing game, the old Dutch tabletop games of slingerplank and trekbiljart, the buzz wire game, marine memory, or they can add their knot to the knot board!

There is also a big playground with climbing tower, swings, pendulum swing and a standing seesaw for the whole family. Whoosh down the ship along the 30-metre long zip wire or crawl into a real escape pod. Hours of fun guaranteed!

Exhibition room 1: beachcombing

Exhibition room 1 is the ‘heart’ of our museum where you can find a colourful collection of things that have washed ashore on the beach of Texel over the past 80 years. The large number of weird, funny, lovely and special objects will surprise you. There is also a cinema room here with a continuous showing of a film of old beachcomber Jan Uitgeest telling his exciting, comical stories.

Exhibition room 2: shipwrecks

The theme of exhibition room 2 is ‘shipwrecks’. Here, you can find documentation, photos and newspaper articles of ships that have run aground off the coast of Texel. We also display the ‘souvenirs’ beachcombers have collected from shipwrecked ships, night and day. And, you can watch a film clip of the in 1990 shipwrecked ‘Anneliese’, which shows how the ship was eventually broken up on the beach and carried off as scrap metal ...

Exhibition room 5: KNRM-fishing-TESO

This exhibition room is all about KNRM, the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution, with the wooden motorised lifeboat ‘Joan Hodshon’ displayed here. This lifeboat, of the De Cocksdorp lifeboat station, was in service from 1935 to 1964. You can watch a lovely film here of the work of the lifeboat organisation. Also displayed in this room, fishing and TESO related items.

Expositieruimte 1: de jutterij

Expositieruimte 1 is het 'hart' van ons museum, hier vindt u een bonte verzameling voorwerpen die in de afgelopen 80 jaar zijn aangespoeld op het strand van Texel. Het grote aantal gekke, grappige, leuke en bijzondere attributen zult u verbazen. Ook is er in deze expositieruimte een filmzaal te vinden, hier draait doorlopend een film waarin de oude jutter Jan Uitgeest zijn spannende en komische verhalen verteld.

Ausstellungsraum 1: Die Jutterei

Dies ist das „Herz“ unseres Museums. Hier finden Sie eine kunterbunte Sammlung von Objekten, die in den letzten 80 Jahren am Strand von Texel angeschwemmt wurden. Sie werden staunen, was da alles zusammengekommen ist an teils skurrilen Funden. Im Kino dieses Ausstellungsraums läuft durchgehend ein Film, in dem der alte Jutter Jan Uitgeest überaus unterhaltsam von der Strandräuberei erzählt (in niederländischer Sprache).

Expositieruimte 2: scheepsstrandingen

Expositieruimte 2 heeft als thema "strandingen", hier vindt u documentatie, foto's en krantenartikelen van de gestrande schepen op de kust van Texel. Ook tonen we hier de 'souveniers' die de jutters in nacht en ontij van de gestrande schepen gejut hebben. Een filmpje van de gestrande 'Anneliese' in 1990 wordt getoond, hier ziet men hoe het schip uiteindelijk op het strand gesloopt is en voor oud ijzer werd afgevoerd...

Ausstellungsraum 2: Schiffsstrandungen

Hier gibt es Dokumente, Fotos und Zeitungsartikel über die vor der Küste Texels gestrandeten Schiffe. Zu den Exponaten gehören auch „Andenken“, die die Jutter bei Nacht und Nebel von gestrandeten Schiffen mitgebracht haben. Und wir zeigen ein Video der 1990 hier gestrandeten „Anneliese“, die letztendlich am Strand zerlegt und als Schrott abtransportiert wurde ...

Our shipwrecked ships

Walk across the inner courtyard of the museum to our ‘shipwrecked’ ships, a Norwegian wooden cutter ‘de Sjøfuglen’ and an actual escape pod. And yes, you can have a look inside!

Inner courtyard

Some of the many special objects displayed in our inner courtyard have been fished up by Texel North Sea fishermen. Anchors, buoys, rudders, even an actual plane engine! There is also a lovely sheltered terrace in this courtyard.

Museum café and souvenir shop

The museum café and the souvenir shop are situated by the museum entrance. The souvenir shop offers a wonderful collection of souvenirs, ranging from nautical products, soft toys to typical Texel souvenirs. In the museum café, you can enjoy a delicious snack or lunch, served all day. Or how about a nice cup of coffee with homemade Texel jutterskoek (beachcomber cake), only available here!
